The article examines ways to improve the reliability and energy efficiency of combined water intake structures under variable hydrological conditions. Particular attention is paid to infiltration–filtration systems equipped with radial drains and Vee-Wire® Johnson Screens filters. Hydraulic calculations and experimental testing showed that these filters reduce local hydraulic resistance, provide uniform water abstraction under partial clogging and increase the service life of drainage systems compared with traditional perforated and mesh elements. The system reduced suspended solids in extracted water by 35–60%, while increased turbidity caused a flow-rate reduction of no more than 5–7%. The proposed solutions improve raw water quality, reduce the load on treatment facilities and increase the operational stability of water supply systems.
