Based on the average annual concentrations of pollutants in the control sections of water bodies in the region for the reporting year, the water pollution index was calculated and the water quality class was established in the sections of the villages of Rozvadiv, Lviv region, and Mayaki, Odessa region. A comparative characteristic of water quality was carried out based on the calculated water pollution index in the control sections of the Dniester River at the indicated observation posts. It was established that the upper reaches of the Dniester River (the village of Rozvadiv, Lviv region) are characterized by significantly higher values of the water pollution index compared to the Dniester Valley (the village of Mayaki, Odessa region). It was found that the waters of the Dniester River basin are mostly moderately polluted and are under significant anthropogenic impact, the level of which is close to the limit of ecosystem sustainability. According to the determined values of the water pollution index, it can be assumed that the Dniester water has not yet reached the critical pollution threshold and has the potential for self-purification, but the territory of the very upper reaches of the Dniester River (the village of Rozvadiv, Lviv region) is characterized by significantly higher values of the water pollution index compared to the Dniester valley (the village of Mayaki, Odessa region). Systematic ecological monitoring of this reservoir is a necessary condition for controlling water quality and ensuring prompt response.
