dc.description.abstract The article addresses the problem of improving the reliability and energy efficiency of water intake structures under conditions of variable hydrological regimes and increasing anthropogenic pressure on water resources. The study analyzes the formation of water quality in open water bodies and sub-channel horizons, identifying factors that contribute to increased concentrations of suspended solids, biogenic components, and organic impurities. Special attention is given to modern infiltration–filtration systems that enable combined abstraction of surface and sub-channel water while providing natural pre-treatment. The paper examines the design features and hydraulic performance of water intake structures equipped with radial drains and high-precision Vee-Wire® Johnson Screens filters, which are characterized by low hydraulic resistance, resistance to clogging, and long operational lifespan. The results of experimental studies and hydraulic calculations demonstrate that the application of Vee-Wire® filters significantly reduces local head losses, ensures uniform water abstraction even under partial clogging conditions, and increases the operational stability of combined water intake systems. The proposed technical solutions can be applied in the design of water supply facilities to improve raw water quality at the intake stage, reduce the load on treatment plants, and enhance the long-term sustainability of water supply systems. ru
