dc.description.abstract Scientists think that burning stubble is, first of all, an anti-ecological and inefficient practice, since it is beneficial neither for soil nor for future yields, and losses caused by such practices are substantial. Burning of straw causes a discharge of a considerable amount of dangerous substances into the air such as carbon dioxide and other toxic gases, that have a negative impact on the air quality and human health. In addition, organic fertilizer is lost. Burning of crop residues causes losses of potential energy, which can be used for other purposes, such as producing bio-fuels or using it as a raw material for other purposes. Agricultural crop residues can serve as natural organic fertilizer for soil, which contributes to maintaining its fertility and structure. Straw is an important part of the ecosystem, and a loss of it can cause a reduction in biodiversity and balance disorder in the environment. The study looks at ecological consequences of burning crop residues and gives recommendations on eliminating them. It presents quantity indicators of fires registered by means of satellites, and also the main indicators characterizing the fire situations in the country. Taking into consideration the obtained results, we drew the following conclusions: it is important to develop and introduce more environmentally friendly and sustainable methods and use of agricultural crop residues instead of burning them, that will contribute to conserving natural resources and reducing a negative impact on the environment. Development and implementation of more ecologically friendly farming methods and using agricultural crop residues can considerably reduce a negative impact on the environment. Farmers and other participants of the agricultural sector can be encouraged to introduce such practices through giving them financial incentives, teaching and educating them, and also through supporting them with appropriate legislation. ru
