Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of the psychological problem of successful study of foreign languages in a non-language institution of higher education. It is emphasized that students' learning motivation is related to their desire for self-affirmation. Knowledge of foreign languages is one of the requirements of the modern world, which opens us new career opportunities. Motivation is considered as a factor influencing the effectiveness of learning, the success of the educational process. It is proved that this also applies to educational activities, which are more successful in terms of the formed positive attitude to learning, cognitive interest, the need to acquire knowledge, skills and abilities. The role of the language barrier and the mechanisms that contribute to its emergence are analyzed. Overcoming psychological barriers – is the internal work of the student, associated with the mobilization of internal resources, as well as the creation of conditions by the teacher of a foreign language, conducive to the formation of students of non-language specialties values of the subject. The article deals with the types of psychological barriers in learning a foreign language. The authors propose some strategies to overcome these barriers in learning foreign languages in universities, which may be useful to students. It is established that an effective method of teaching foreign languages is a communicative method that helps to overcome the fear of live communication in a foreign language. The teacher acts as a participant in the process, partner and mentor, creating a relaxed atmosphere in the classroom and controlling the process. It is emphasized that one of the important stages of learning English is conversational practice with native speakers, which contributes to the immersion in the culture of the country whose language is being studied.
